The second reading for the second Sunday of Advent comes from St Paul’s letter to the Philippians. St Paul is grateful for the good work done by God in this community, and he is encouraging them. He is adamant that what God has started in the city of Philippi will be continued by him until the day that Jesus Christ returns at the end of time.
God works with us in the same way he worked with the community St Paul was writing to. God plants seeds of love in each of our hearts through the good work of Jesus and his Spirit. God waters these seeds through his grace in our lives, through the sacraments, and through the love we receive from others. Gently, over time, the seeds grow slowly in our hearts, transforming our lives and the lives of whoever we meet. Throughout our whole lives, God
continues to work with us, nurturing the fruits that Jesus made possible.
Perhaps we can take some time today to give thanks for these seeds of love planted in our hearts by God.
How will we nurture these seeds today?
