What does an answer to God's call look like today to you? For Simon Peter and the other disciples, answering God's call was to give up their lives and follow Jesus completely. For many of us, although possible, this won't mean that we will have to give up life as we know it. By our baptism, we are called to participate in the church's mission, align with God's plan for us, use our God-given gifts in service to others, and share the good news
of Jesus.
We are called where we are, not when we think we are ready. God needs us despite our shortcomings, failures and doubts. He assures us that he will be with us, working through us to help us to catch others just as he caught us. He is asking us to spread the news of God's wide net of grace and mercy and love so that he can offer us and those that we catch an abundant life of His love.
There is a strong link between listening to the Lord and doing. Simon Peter doesn't simply make a profession of faith but is ready to do something. He is willing to down tools immediately and follows Jesus.
