Pentecost! Receive the Holy Spirit. Pentecost, a Christian holiday, is celebrated on the 50th day from Easter Sunday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and other followers of Jesus, while they were in Jerusalem celebrating Shavuot, the Jewish festival known in English as the Feast of Weeks.
This past Sunday we, along with many other Christian churches, celebrated Pentecost, the day that God sent us the Holy Spirit after Jesus had returned to our Heavenly Father.
The Holy Spirit is our helper, our advocate in good times and bad. The Holy Spirit is a constant reminder to us and reminds us of all of Jesus’ teachings while he was on earth and the Holy Spirit will always provide us with guidance and discernment when most needed.
Pentecost is the day that we receive the Holy Spirit, sent to us by Jesus and we also heed the call to go out into the world to spread the Good News. Jesus is well aware that this will not be an easy task for us to complete and so his gift of the Holy Spirit will be a companion and will strengthen our faith and hope in times of persecution and ridicule.
Today, take time to give thanks for the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life and be grateful for the guidance and strength that the Holy Spirit brings.
