In Judaism, the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost, is the divine force, quality, and influence of God over the universe or over his creatures. In Christianity, the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. In Islam, the Holy Spirit acts as an agent of divine action or communication.
As Christians we believe the Holy Spirit to be the Lord and Giver of Life, present before and at the creation. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand God’s word and truth. The Holy Spirit bestows gifts on us as believers: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord. We are not always aware of our gifts and some of the gifts are not
obvious.
Here are some ways to help to discover some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit:
Ask others what gift or talent they see in you.
Think about what gifts come out in times of adversity.
Ask God to show you or to help you to recognise your gifts.
Try something new and allow unknown gifts to be revealed.
Read the Scriptures and seek the invitation to discover and develop your gifts.
Focus your attention on helping others and discover unexpected gifts.
Look to role models and identify the gifts and positive things you admire in them.
What gifts do you share with your family?
The disciples received the gift of the holy spirit from Jesus and they received gifts from the Holy Spirit. All these gifts allowed them to carry out God’s works and to declare the good news.
Today, I invite you to reflect on your gifts. Which are your strongest?
Which gifts could you develop more to the greater good of God’s church?
Take time to discover your not-so-obvious gifts.
