God is relational, we are also relational beings because we are made in his image and likeness. God invites us into relationship with him and he also invites us into relationship with others. This reminds me of that famous phrase “no man is an island”. The Lord sends us out in pairs not because we can’t do the task on our own, well maybe we can’t; but He sends us
out in pairs because we need each other.
We need each other more especially in ministry, the journey to discipleship is better travelled with others. On our own, we might get tired and afraid of what lies ahead and quit the journey, those we journey with will offer support to motivate and encourage us to stay the course. The journey to discipleship involves challenges, these challenges might require the
help of others to help us discern the way forward. Community helps us to find the courage to face unusual and new paths we might be invited to.
The Lord appointed seventy- two and sent them in pairs. The pairing means support and help, we are stronger together. Jesus had his disciples and he was constantly connected to his Father through prayer. So, we too, like the Lord are sent out not on our own but with others to encourage us on our journey. The Lord also sent them to every town and place he intended
to visit, He was sending them to where he would go. Sometimes as leaders we send those we lead to spaces we would never dare set foot. Our participation in this journey to discipleship should not be remote, we should lead among the people going with them where the need is.
How do you encourage others to serve the Lord?
Where is the Lord sending you out to today?
To whom is He sending you out to today?
