God invites our active participation in the building of His Kingdom. This invitation is not to a few select individuals in our parishes or communities, but goes out to each and every one of us who follow Christ or call ourselves Christians.
Families are invited to care for one another. Parents to care and love their children, teach them right from wrong so that they may grow to be responsible, loving and caring members of society.
Jesus invites us to relationship and friendship with him. Some of the ingredients for friendship are intention, mutuality and respect. Jesus’s friendship with us helps as a model for our earthly friendships. Are we the kind of friends we expect our friends to be to us? Are we honest? Are we there for our friends like Jesus is there for us? Are we accepting and
welcoming of our friends’ mistakes as Jesus is of ours? Are we forgiving to our friends when they do us wrong?
"In loco parentis" means acting in the place of a parent who has entrusted the custody and control of his or her child to an educator or another person during normal intramural or extramural school activities (Education Department SA). In a school environment, teachers become like the parents of the children they teach. Teachers are invited to
inspire, love and protect the children entrusted to their care; this is a big responsibility and challenge. Everyday we learn of the exceptional ways in which teachers accept this invitation to work together with God in the building of his Kingdom.
Many of us miss opportunities to meet or find God where we work. This could be due to a number of reasons. Most of our day is spent at work. Working provides for us, among other things, dignity and the ability to care and provide for our needs and those of our families. The Lord invites us to participate as he continues to labour for us, in our workplaces
too. As we ask the master of the harvest to send out labourers for his harvest; may we also realise that the labourers include ourselves.
How and where is the master sending you out to today?
What is your response?
