If we were asked to make a list of all the things the Lord has done for us or the promises that He has fulfilled in our lives, our list would be endless because "the Lord has done great things for us and we are glad" (Psalm 126: 3). The Lord is faithful and He is always there for us when we need Him and, we need
Him always.
It is easier for us to reflect back on our lives and to be able to see the hand of God and how he has come to our aid. The same cannot be said about our hope; looking toward tomorrow and being sure that our Lord will show up for us as He has promised. Doubt is not the absence of our faith, but why do we doubt God sometimes? Why do we not have faith that
He will fulfil His promises? We doubt even when we have experienced His faithful nature in the past. Because we tend to not be sure about anything, we start to doubt God as well. The challenge concerning doubt is that we end up doubting our entire relationship with God. We doubt that God is God, we doubt that we can rely on Him, we doubt His love for us and therefore we doubt His presence in our lives.
Mary struggled when the angel came to her to tell her that she will bear the Son of God. She was surprised at the possibility of what the angel was telling her, she entered into conversation with the angel and she asked questions and voiced her confusion. The angel assured Mary, just as we are assured today, that "nothing is impossible with God" (Luke 1: 37). So, Mary trusted and believed the promise of the Lord. Like Mary, we are invited to approach
the Lord in prayer, with our doubts, knowing that He will help us and that our relationship with God will be strengthened.
How have you doubted the Lord before? How has He turned these doubts on their head? You are invited to trust, as Mary did, that the Lord will fulfil his promises and that you can rely on him.
