One of the most significant things I have learnt in my faith journey is the merciful nature of God. There is nothing that I can do that can erase or make me unworthy of God's mercy and grace, I can never go or be in a state where the Lord's mercy and grace cannot reach. Someone might criticise this and say that
I'm using this assurance as an excuse to commit sins knowing that God is forgiving. I would disagree with this; this realisation invites me a to a deeper relationship with God, where I can be myself without fearing any judgment from him.
We know God’s mercy, we have all experienced it and continue to do so. We know the nature of God is that of being merciful and
tender hearted. When I hear the word mercy, immediately I think of sin, forgiveness and compassion. God is merciful because "He is love, faithful and slow to anger". Mary, in these words of praise, show us the attitude we should have as those that believe in God. She praises God for who God is and his greatness, then moves on to thank God for what He has done. We are invited to be joyful like our Mother Mary and remember what the Lord has done for us.
We all desire mercy and forgiveness, the Lord today is inviting us to express this need to him in our prayer. We always say “forgive us our sins as we forgive those that trespass against us” when we pray the Our Father, but we are lacking when we have to offer forgiveness to people that have wronged us. We can share this difficulty with the Lord in our prayer and ask Him for the grace to be able to
forgive others.
Are you in need of God's mercy and healing? Do you find it difficult or easier to ask and offer forgiveness?
