Waiting…In this new age of instant gratification, waiting and patience is truly a virtue. Having invited a visitor and waiting for them to arrive can be torturous. I’m sure many of us have had to wait at an airport for passengers on a plane that has been delayed, struggled their way through passport control or having theirs being the
last bag off the carousel. Waiting doesn’t come easily.
We are also accustomed to things in our world being done immediately or at least in the fastest time. We have fast food restaurants and ready meals, drive throughs and delivery services. Emails and WhatsApp messages call for an immediate response. Online banking, credit and debit cards don’t even expect us to save up and wait for things that we would like to
purchase.
There are many Scripture texts that call on us to wait, for God’s action in our lives and for the return of Jesus. We have certainly been waiting a very long time for the latter! In these verses (35-36), Jesus teaches us how to wait for his return, how to be ready and waiting at all times: be prepared and expectant.
We need to be dressed and
ready for action. We need to have everything prepared and in order for the Lord’s return so that we can be part of this and enjoy it. Jesus will come in glory, festive and joyful and on his return, we should throw open the doors and welcome him in the same manner.
