For Zacchaeus to be out and about in the crowd as he was, was indeed brave. Remember, Zacchaeus was a tax collector for the Roman Government. He would have been seen as the "enemy" on many levels. Furthermore, Zacchaeus was a man of small
stature. It is not difficult to imagine that there would have been many people in the crowd who would have loved to exact revenge on him, and who would have known in such a crowd?
But Zacchaeus was desperate. He had heard that this Jesus was a friend of
sinners and tax collectors. Maybe, just maybe, Jesus would be his friend too. So he makes a plan. Hearing that Jesus' arrival is imminent, he climbs into a tree to get a better view. He was not disappointed.
Have you, or are you
desperate to meet with Jesus?
What challenges or obstacles seem in the way you of you coming face to face with your Saviour?
Maybe you remember a time you actively sought Jesus, and he responded.
Is there an invitation for you to step out and create a
space to meet Jesus afresh? Maybe Jesus longs to respond to you in a way that will surprise and delight you.
