The story of Zacchaeus beautifully illustrates what Jesus came to do and continues to do for us today. Jesus actively seeks out all who have wandered away from God and lovingly restores our broken relationship. Jesus did not just come and proclaim a bunch of nice words that rested
pleasingly on the ear before leaving again. Instead, Jesus continues over and over again to seek us out, and His redeeming love leaves us changed.
Zacchaeus had built a successful career at the expense of others, so he was hated and rejected by the community. It left him utterly miserable and
empty. Jesus met him in that state and restored him to a place of being loved and accepted by none other than the one who created him in the first place. That redeeming love changed Zaccheaus, and he committed to right the wrongs he had done and more. When we encounter Jesus' saving grace for us, we are changed too. We are recreated as the person we are meant to be.
As Jesus seeks you out today, what might He invite you to recognise, let go of or change?
What might you feel stirring within you as you are acknowledged and welcomed?
How does it feel for you to know Jesus will seek you out again and again whenever you wander off?
