There have been many prophecies and predictions about the end of the world; you would think because those
from the past didn't happen, people would stop making predictions about when the world would end. But unfortunately, most of these predictions are out of touch with reality, and some are frightening. So in Christianity, we speak of the end of the world as we know it and the coming of the kingdom of God.
Never-ending wars, pandemics, natural disasters and other happenings around us are referred to as signs that the world is coming to an end. Sometimes those making these prophecies would reference scripture to convince others of what they are saying. But, of course, we can all agree that no one knows when the world will end.
But what is the Lord inviting us to today?
The disciples, like us, are asking for signs. Signs convince us what we are doing is not in
vain; we are almost there, and they whisper that we are noticed. Perhaps the invitation to us today is to carry on the work of being and doing good and not focus much on signs. Instead, we are invited to continue becoming more like Christ as we wait for the Lord's arrival. There are enough signs around us that encourage us to be Christlike with our time in this world, generous, caring, and looking out for others.
What signs are you asking for from the Lord today? I invite you to look at the world and your life and ask the Lord to help you see the signs you would like to see that will help you to be more like Him.
Then, once you have seen them, ask for the grace to respond generously.
