God’s abiding presence
We need to follow the Lord and trust him. Following the Lord is not about walking after him trying to see what He did and where he went; following the Lord is about becoming more like him. When we imitate the Lord, we follow Him. This requires patience, leading us to understand what salvation is. To understand, we need to have patience and trust in the Lord. We might feel like we have lost the Lord when we lack these
characteristics.
It might be helpful to ask ourselves how we relate to God. For example, is God a figure or a real person? When we connect with God as a real person, we can begin to trust him.
Today's gospel is precious because it gives us an idea of who Jesus is. Jesus is love. When we lack love, we miss out on the Jesus who is love. When we focus on his love, we become attentive to what is happening around us, our surroundings and those with whom we live.
Jesus tells those listening to Him that all they see will one day be thrown down. He is speaking about the destruction of the temple. He is telling of this destruction while others admire the temple's beauty. However, they misunderstood him because Jesus talked about his death and
resurrection.
How might we relate this to our world and lives today?
What needs to be thrown down in our lives to make space for a meaningful relationship with the Lord?
What are we invited to let go of today, especially the things we believe are beautiful but bring us no value or purpose?
