We return to the image of the shoot from the stump of Jesse. Jesus is our promise of life and freshness. He is a sign to all the world
that our deepest and purest longings shall become tangible. This is the hope that we pray for during Advent.
"Him shall the nations seek." This is an
interesting promise. It indicates that all people around the world, no matter their background or situation, desire to be close to Jesus. As Christians, we believe that our deepest fulfilment and salvation come from a deep and personal friendship with Jesus. What are the desires and longings of your own heart? What are our desires and longings as a people?
"His dwelling shall be glorious." When we have that deep and personal friendship with Jesus, it will be like living with Jesus. Wherever we are will be the dwelling of God. The promise is that this dwelling shall be glorious. To know Jesus intimately, love him dearly and follow him closely
is the way to live the most meaningful life. This is what it means to be in the Kingdom of God.
Reflect today on your relationship with Jesus.
Would you describe it as a deep and personal friendship? Or do you feel a distance between you and the Lord? Talk to Jesus about this relationship and pray for the grace of an ever-deepening nearness to Jesus.
