I have been away for a few days and have returned to find my garden delightfully transformed.
Two sunflowers planted
randomly by the birds are turning their bright yellow faces to the sun. The joy of their willing presence is contagious, as is the happy twitter of the birds as they come to inspect their handiwork. A bed of purple agapanthus have opened their hands to present an array of well-rounded flowers as if they are nature's own Christmas baubles. And as the breeze catches their long thin necks, they sway to a tune only they can hear – gently, contentedly. In flower pots, tiny seedlings have appeared to
form little green posies, with the occasional bud promising further delight in the coming days. In fact, the whole environment is green and alive, having opened its mouth to drink deeply from God's welcome rains. It feels as though the Creator is saying, "I have prepared the space; now come and wait for my glory with me".
Advent can feel so chaotic as we
draw from the last dregs of strength we have to finish the year by satisfying others with hurriedly prepared Christmas splendours.
But I wonder as I look around at what naturally abounds, is the Creator perhaps invitingly saying: “What I give is enough. Stop! Look around you! See my miracle for all the world is
unfolding!”
