God is calling on Israel to be the light to all the world. A light in the darkness, an example of how God planned for the people to live, of how to live in God’s grace, to be faithful and to bring all into God’s house.
Israel is called to be like a lighthouse, standing tall and bright in the darkness and shining a very bright light as far as the eye can see. A light in the darkness to ward off danger and guide all on the same path. During the day, when the bright light can’t be seen, a bright red and white or black and white sentry is watching, warning, and guiding. The lighthouse, too, is a servant carrying out the mission of keeping ships safe from danger.
We are also called to be a light in the world. Jesus, the light of the world, set an example for us. Our invitation is to make the light of Jesus shine through us and, in that way, bring the lost into the light of God.
Our words and actions, as Christians, are visible for all to see and guide others on the right path to salvation through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Today, I invite you to reflect on the light you shine in this world. How can you be the light that draws people closer to
God?
