The greatest test of all: Do we truly put God first in all things, or do we put our plans, wishes or people
before our mighty God?
Today I need to think about the big and smaller things that often take the place of God or take preference to God
in my life. So, take a little time to ponder this. It could be anything at all!
What robs you of the time necessary to build your
relationship and friendship with Jesus? What stops you from listening to him through reading scripture, meditating and contemplating God, and speaking to him in prayer? What other voices might you be obeying when you make your life plans or do your work, study or take your leisure day by day? What do you devote your time to or spend your energy and money on? What, ultimately, are your goals and ambitions? Who do you seek to please?
Could you try to be more like Jesus? Watch him in the Gospels. He is committed to loving and serving God, his Father, alone. The flesh may scream for satisfaction. The world may beckon seductively.
The devil himself may offer undreamed-of power. But Israel’s loving God, the one Jesus knew as Father, showed the reality of what it meant to be human, a true Israelite, and Messiah.
Ponder how you can bear the name ‘Christian’ more steadily.
How can you do God the greatest honour, with the name of
Christian, day by day?
How can you honour God by being exactly who he created you to be?
