Jesus points out that the harvest is plenty and labourers are few. What Jesus said is
true. We see this daily. There will always be people who need help and opportunities for us to imitate Jesus daily in our lives. Jesus offers us a way to face this shortage. He tells us to pray, to ask God to send out labourers for the plentiful harvest. We are encouraged to converse with God and ask him to send people to help build his kingdom.
What kind of people shall we ask God for? We think God knows our and the world's needs, so he will send the right labourers. Yet, God wants us to be specific in who and what we ask for. Do we want people who seek to love and know themselves to be loved unconditionally by God?
People who know this love is a gift that cannot be taken away. People who understand and know that we all deserve God’s mercy and forgiveness. People who are ready to embrace change and difference and know how to pray and do this often as Jesus did. What other qualities or characteristics do you think labourers in the harvest ought to possess? Do you have these qualities?
We often think the call or the Lord's invitation goes out to others. We may believe we are not worthy servants or doubt our abilities. We are reminded today that our gifts and talents are from God. God invites us to use our talents to serve him and others around
us.
Today's invitation is to pray with the Lord, asking him to send more labourers to his harvest. As you pray, be open to the grace of God working when the Lord invites you to labour in the
harvest because he does call you.
