Ministry is fulfilling when things are going well. We enjoy being in ministry when we
are comfortable. There are different conditions and spaces that make us comfortable. We are most comfortable in our familiar spaces, like our parish and communities, and ministering to people we know, who know and love us. We are part of many wonderful activities and programmes that help us contribute to doing the Lord’s work. We have been part of some of these since their inception, and it's wonderful to see them progressing so well, working like well-oiled machines.
We are invited today to go to the “lost sheep of the house of Israel”. To enter unfamiliar territory and what might be uncomfortable spaces to begin ministry again. Before we begin to offer ourselves, we
would like to have our preferences and favourable conditions in place. How much more impact would we make if we did not have preferences? If we let ourselves be used by the Lord to do his work? If we trust more in him than we do in our own abilities? If we are convinced that he can work in all people and all situations?
Jesus reminds us today to go into the world and preach the good news to all creation (Mk 16:15). Perhaps this means to stop ‘preaching to the converted’ and find those not yet converted.
Spend some time reflecting on the Lord's invitation to embrace all creation. What does all creation mean to you? Who is all creation? Share with him how this invitation makes you feel.
