We are rarely asked for a cup of cold water. Money,
food and clothing are the most common needs among those approaching us for assistance. Charities are overwhelmed by the number of needy people, especially in winter. People are cold and hungry. Soup kitchens are busy, and the call for blankets and warm clothes can be heard everywhere.
The rewards of Jesus extend beyond our tithes and almsgiving. Those who work for others, who serve others with kindness, care and generosity, will be greatly rewarded. Our society is complex, but our ability to serve and devote ourselves to the service of others is not. Even in the poorest communities, people with very little serve those with even less. Serving others means serving
Jesus.
Reflect on how you can or already serve others. How does this impact your life, and how does it affect those you
serve?
