This parable of the wedding feast we heard on Sunday reminds us of an essential aspect of the kingdom of heaven and our relationship with God. That is, God always takes the initiative and makes the first move. This is important to notice in our own faith journey. We often think it is on us to seek and find God, but this Gospel reminds us that God
always first seeks us out.
The king in this Gospel sends out his servants to summon the guests to the wedding. Why do they need to be called to the wedding again if they were invited? They should just come. The Lord is like this with us; he knows we know him, but he still invites us daily to a life of abundance and joy. God always takes the initiative. He does
not only make the first move once and, thereafter, call it a day by giving up on us because of the (disinterested) response we might have made to his previous attempts at seeking us. This is evident in the number of times the king sends out his servants to invite people to the wedding feast. The invitation still goes out to everyone, including those who rejected the invitation and killed the messengers of the king. We have to be aware that God constantly invites us. He is always wanting to draw
us to him.
Spend some time today reflecting on how God continuously takes the initiative to seek you. To what abundance might God be inviting you to today? Are you open to the invitation? Spend some time in conversation with God. Remember, he is already waiting for you to notice him.
