Our relationship with God is always one that we respond to out of free will. God never coerces or forces us to enter into friendship with him. The people the king invited to his son’s wedding feast refused the king’s invitation. Our human response to the invitation of the Lord can be like this rejection. Our focus on life, our families, work and
other business can take our attention away from the invitation of God to abundance. So, we isolate ourselves from this invitation.
The Gospel reminds us of our free will. We exercise our free will daily - even in our relationship with God. God never compels us to accept his invitation, and no one is compelled to accept God’s grace. I believe God would prefer our
response to him be a generous yes. Yes, to an abundance of life, this joyful feast, overcoming evil, and everything of the best.
I am not worthy, or I am not fit, we may say to ourselves. How can God invite me? How can God choose me? Why me? Is God not aware of my challenges or the terrible things I have done? Well, the good news is that God is still
inviting you! And perhaps in drawing closer to God, in accepting his invitation to a life with him, we can begin to know ourselves as God knows us. We also begin to see ourselves as God sees us. Seeing as God sees should be our starting point.
Spend a few moments today reflecting on your quality of response to the Lord. Review with the Lord how you respond
to him. Ask him for the grace to be able to respond generously to his invitations in your life.
