I believe the Lord does not rush us. He invites us to partner with him in his mission and then gives us the space and time to discern how we are to contribute to his mission. We are reminded today not to take too long to respond to the Lord’s invitation. The king invited guests in advance to his son’s wedding feast; they had time to decide if they would attend, and they then chose not
to. What did the king do? He extended his invitation to everybody his servants could find, from the streets, in the towns, and anywhere they could find people.
Ultimately, the wedding feast was full of guests, as was the king's wish. We must learn that we are all invited to participate in the mission in our unique ways. However, knowing that God leaves us free and has ‘alternatives’ is equally important. There will always be people ready
and willing to accept the Lord's invitation to embark on the mission of living abundant life. We are special and unique, but not enough to stop the plan of God or think that without our contribution, things will come to a halt and our absence will be felt. While we know God loves us unconditionally and welcomes us with open arms, God continues his mission despite our response.
So we are invited to ask for the grace of humility, to know that
others around us are special and unique, and God reaches out to them and us. God accepts help from anyone willing to participate in his mission. This is not about competition but our freedom to accept God’s unique call to each of us.
Where in your relationship with God are you invited to grow in humility? What might you do to facilitate this growth? Spend some time today in conversation with the Lord about
this.
