As human beings, we long to be changed, transformed, even transfigured. At the same time, we are often afraid and resist it,
perhaps because we fear the vulnerability involved in allowing God to change us. Transformation is not easy as it involves letting go. Transfiguration is a breaking through and filling of God’s light and grace.
Our
readiness to be transfigured starts with a willingness to be transformed, to put on the mind and heart of Christ. Jesus went up mountains many times, often alone, to spend time with the Father and to soak in that presence.
When we spend time with God, we become more like God. We learn to see the world with God’s eyes. We let go of our own agendas and become vulnerably transparent to God.
Then, we engage in the world from a place where we are more at one with God. What we have experienced encountering God infuses how we show up in our families, communities and places of work, allowing God’s glory to shine through us.
I invite you today to pray with these words of blessing (see below), holding onto those which stir you most and talking with God about them.
