This verse speaks of a promise. The promise that we will be rewarded for choosing God’s ways rather than the world's. Jesus is an example of this. He denied himself and took up the cross, died and rose again. This was the Father’s plan for him. Jesus was rewarded with resurrection and a new life three days after
his death.
Being told to deny ourselves now will ensure a better way of life for us. We will be rewarded with the glory of God, the riches of heaven and eternal life with Jesus. Following Jesus and God’s plan for us now ensures infinite joy and pleasure in eternity. In all instances, denying ourselves and following Jesus brings joy to our family, relationships and
self.
Jesus died so that we might live. We die for him by denying our sinful ways and desires to have a fulfilled life now and in the future.
What way will you choose today? Reflect on what it means to you to live eternally
with Jesus.
