Jesus is announcing the Good News. He is telling us what we need to do to enter God’s kingdom: repent and believe in the salvation that is here for us; believe in the Gospel.
To repent means to feel and express regret and remorse for the times we have turned from God’s love. It is an invitation to have a complete revolution,
change of mind and heart, turning to a way of life that follows God.
Lent provides us with this opportunity. We are invited to identify those areas and ways of repenting. We are invited to change our lives and follow God in love and with the same love and faithfulness God shows us.
To believe in the Gospel means to believe in Christ as well as to believe what he said
and did. God’s commandments and how we should live are laid out for us in the Gospel. We have been shown the way and given the tools, and now it is up to us to make a commitment to walk this path.
Jesus is telling us that God’s kingdom is near. He is telling us to prepare, and he is telling us how to be part of this kingdom.
Lent invites us into a time of preparation
for what is to come. Consider those areas of your life that call for repentance and ask God for a changed heart and mind.
