This verse always gives me goosebumps. Reflecting on why, I conclude that it reminds me that Jesus is so good and knows me well—the good, the bad, and the ugly. The quiet, nagging voice and “pings” of guilt come along with the goosebumps, though. Do I know Jesus as intimately as he knows me?
A good shepherd knows all the sheep in his
fold. He is familiar with their mannerisms, distinctive markings, and even their different calls. The sheep know the shepherd, too. They recognise his scent, his voice, and his mannerisms. The sheep follow the shepherd knowingly, faithfully, and with trust.
How does the realisation that Jesus knows you so well make you feel? How would it feel to ask Jesus to tell you about himself, his longings and desires?
