I have found that the most deserted, lonely and quiet places provide the most rest. Being away from those who need us most and having no urgent demands on us or our time allows us to breathe, rest, relax and connect with God. God is everywhere, and sometimes we need an unfamiliar, quiet space to reconnect with, speak to and hear God.
Being alone reminds us that God never leaves us. God finds ways to break through the busyness, the noise of people and technology, to interact with us and to draw us close.
In the quiet, solitary places, God restores our souls and fills our cups with the desire, motivation and energy required to fulfil our mission.
Jesus saw that the disciples needed a quiet place to gather their thoughts
and replenish their strength. They needed time to draw close to Jesus.
Jesus offers us rest for our weary souls. Dallas Willard once said, “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day… you must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.” —from “Unhurrying
with A Rule of Life: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” John Mark Comer (October 27, 2019)
