We are always looking for something more, something we do not have at the moment, something that will help make our lives easier and freer. Sometimes, we know we want more in our lives, but we cannot name it. Bartimaeus wanted something more, something he did not have, something that would make his life fuller. He knew what this was.
When Jesus asked Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” He responded, “Master, I want to see.” I am convinced that Bartimaeus had imagined and practised this encounter with Jesus a few times. His response was honest and without hesitation. What Bartimaeus asked helped him follow Jesus. Will what I want help or hinder me in praising and serving God?
We are reminded that God is interested in what we want. God does not
want us to ignore or push aside our desires. Sometimes, we think that what we desire is not what God wants for us, so we do not ask. Bartimaeus reminds us always to ask.
What are you looking for at the moment? The Lord invites you to express this freely without doubt or shame. Consider how your desires affect your relationship with God.
