Jesus’ answer to Pilate’s question is both incriminating and profoundly revealing.
We will never know what this exclamation of Pilate sounded like or the purpose of his words. Was he delighted that Jesus had ‘convicted’ himself? Was he intrigued? Did he feel sorry for Jesus, who seemed tragically deluded? Did he feel relieved
and ‘let off the hook’? We may wonder if he ever pondered these words again sometime later.
Our supporting Scripture readings for this week warm the believer’s heart and spark hope. There is the prophet Daniel’s vision many years before the incarnation: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into
his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshipped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:13-14)
John’s words in our reading from the Book of Revelation help us ponder afresh our readiness and eagerness to meet Jesus, our King:
“Look, he
is coming with the clouds,”
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”
So shall it be! Amen.” (Revelation 1:7)
Take a moment today to consider Jesus, the Universe's King. Is he your king, the
king of your heart and world?
Do you spend your time, energy and money on building his kingdom?
Are you ready and keen to receive Jesus the King with willingness, enthusiasm, and joy when he comes again?
