In the last part of this week’s Gospel, we learn something different and essential, but not unrelated, about Jesus and God his Father.
Two weeks ago, we learnt about Jesus using the example of a child and childlikeness as an example of what a disciple’s relationship with God should be. Now, we see Jesus’ interaction with little
children first-hand.
Notice how dissatisfied he is about them being excluded and sent away from interaction with him. He is adamant and insistent about welcoming them and experiencing their physical contact. He reminds the disciples, once again, that children are highly valued in God’s Kingdom. He warns that only those with the faith of a little child will be welcomed into God’s Kingdom.
Ask Jesus to show you something new about this incident between him and the children. How do you need to be more childlike in your relationship with him?
In what ways do you need to be more obedient and trust in him, even with your complicated adult mind and heart?
If you are a parent, in what ways do you
encourage your children to know and encounter Jesus? Does your behaviour and example prevent or hinder their relationship with him?
