Bartimaeus was aware of his needs and challenges. He knew without a doubt that Jesus, Son of David, was the person who would help him, ease the challenges he was facing and meet his needs. What might we learn from Bartimaeus?
Bartimaeus continued to cry out to Jesus to pity him even when people around him rebuked him and told him to
remain silent. He did not allow this. He did not allow his circumstances to put him in a corner where he missed the opportunity to express his need for assistance to the Lord.
Outside voices deceive us into silence. Today, We are invited to express our needs and desires to the Lord honestly. Bartimaeus models the honesty with which we ought to approach the Lord. The Lord is never too busy to listen when we cry out to him. Perhaps, like
Bartimaeus, we have cried to the Lord and now feel like our cries were unheard. So, we have become tired. Bartimaeus reminds us to call out to the Lord again, “Son of David, have pity on me”.
This story of blind Bartimaeus encourages us to cheer on those others who have expressed their need for help from God. Encourage them to reach out to Jesus to help them get up and draw close to him.
Who encourages and supports your journey with the Lord? How might you help others in their journey with the Lord?
