This story of Bartimaeus tells of healing, faith and calling. Bartimaeus models true discipleship. Jesus calls Bartimaeus, and he responds by throwing aside his cloak, jumping up and going to Jesus.
Jesus invites Bartimaeus to action. The healing Bartimaeus was looking for would not come without some action on his part. He has to get
up and go to Jesus. He also has to leave some things behind. These things may not have been wrong or bad, but they may have hindered his healing or closeness to Jesus.
This is also true for our lives today. When we take up something, it
means we let go of other things on our journey that might not lead
to the fullness of life we yearn for. When we choose to follow
Jesus, we have to reject things which could either be positive or
negative, that could hinder our growth and life in Jesus.
I invite you to find a quiet space to reflect.
What is your response to Jesus’ call to draw closer to him?
What might you be invited to let go of? Ask the Lord for light to see as the Lord
sees.
