Jesus understands Peter’s astonishment and sense of unworthiness in following and serving him. He does not hold it against him but rather reassures him and invites him to service.
Can you imagine Jesus looking at you and saying these same words to you? “Do not be afraid. We are going to help countless souls.” How does he look
at you? How does his voice sound? Does he reach out to you in any way? How does your heart feel hearing these words? How do you respond?
There are two striking points to reflect on in this text. Firstly, that we shall be catchers of people. In our journey of serving Jesus’ mission, we are assured that we will touch many lives. If we respond to Jesus’ call, we will be people who help souls.
Secondly, notice the response of the fishermen. They leave everything and follow Jesus. This is a radical act. Just imagine abandoning your job, your car, and your comfort zone all to follow this man who has appeared very suddenly in your life and changed it forever.
Are you reassured by Jesus' invitation not to fear and his promise that you will help souls? How do you respond to this invitation?
