Blessed are those who trust in the Lord. This calls us to rely on the Lord for what we need. But “blessed are those whose trust in the Lord” is saying something else. The word here for ‘trust’ can also be translated as ‘hope’. We can, therefore, read the sentence as saying: “Blessed are those whose hope is the Lord.” How can the Lord inspire hope in us and be our
hope?
We can rely on the Lord to provide for us and to give us the things that sustain us in life. But God has made us so that we will only be happy when we are with him. We journey in this life with the Lord, sharing our joys and sorrows with God. But our final hope in life is to be with the Lord forever. In this way, the Lord is both the provider and our end goal.
Let us ask for grace this week to know we will be restless until we find the Lord. He is our peace and hope.
