Jesus suggests that while he will face opposition in Galilee, his true purpose lies in Jerusalem. Jesus’ destiny is to go to Jerusalem and die. He is willing to risk the threats of the fox (Herod) and adopt the role of the mother hen to the chickens (the people of God) faced with sudden and grave danger.
Throughout his ministry, Jesus
had an understanding of his vocation, which was reaffirmed through experiences such as facing temptation in the wilderness and being baptised by John. This understanding of his vocation kept him focused and strong, even when faced with extreme opposition and hardship.
Even as Jesus faced his ultimate demise, he remained faithful to his calling and did not shy away from what needed to be done.
Vocation is not just for clergy and ordained people. God has a vocation and purpose for everyone who has chosen to follow him.
Discerning our vocation is important as it assists us in following God faithfully, particularly in the face of suffering. As we become aware of our vocation and have it affirmed through different experiences, we can better connect with God and follow Christ
faithfully throughout our lives.
