Jesus shows compassion and grace for all, even those deemed sinners. Jesus reminds us that it is important to look closely at ourselves and be humble instead of judgmental. In this text, instead of condemning the woman caught in adultery, Jesus is merciful and forgiving.
The Pharisees brought this woman before Jesus intending to trap
him into contradicting Mosaic Law. They were testing him to see if he would agree with them that the woman should be stoned.
There is no real concern about her and her well-being. They are intent on trying to test Jesus and find a way to accuse him.
So often, we point out another’s transgressions to distract from ourselves or place the blame on another, trying to gauge
reactions and cause problems for others.
So often, we forget to take a look in the mirror to see our faults and make the necessary changes. It is easier to point a finger at another rather than acknowledge our wrongdoings.
Jesus invites us to be self-reflective, humble, merciful, and forgiving. Let us ask for this grace today.
