“For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)

Matthew 16:13-19

The Second Vatican Council emphasised that through Jesus, God the Father reveals himself to us. In the face of Jesus, we see the face of God. This means that revelation is more than an idea to be understood—it is a person that we need to meet. 

Importantly, this person wants to establish a relationship with us. This friendship with Jesus, a life-giving friendship, is a pure gift from God. 

What do we need to do to have this relationship with Jesus? This may seem obvious to point out, but Jesus just needs us to say yes to him knocking on our door. It may seem simple, but how difficult it sometimes is to open that door to him. 

What would it mean for you to open the door to Jesus this week? What parts of your life do you want to speak to Jesus about?

Lord Jesus, you are standing at our door, knocking. Thank you for this invitation to intimacy with you. Give us the grace we need to open our hearts to your love. Be with us and walk with us in friendship this week.
