Notice in this verse that Jesus doesn’t ask Peter to build his church. Peter is invited to become one of the important stones of the church—a church that Jesus will build.
It is important to know that Jesus is the Master Builder. We can cooperate with his work, but the ultimate responsibility lies with God.
There is a
lesson in grace here. Often, we may feel that the growth of our Christian lives and communities depends solely on us. That responsibility can feel heavy sometimes. We could also feel alone.
However, it is comforting to know that God is quietly building away: he is nurturing the growth of our church, our communities and our lives.
How are you letting God work in your life this week? What burdens are you carrying alone that
you need to let God carry?
