This warning is just as much for us as it was for those to whom Jesus was speaking.
We, like this farmer, are tempted to think that our security lies in our material possessions. However, we soon realise that no amount of wealth can protect us from illness, heartache, disappointments, accidents or death. Large amounts of
money or expensive assets don’t keep our relationships healthy or our families from dividing. As is the case in this text, wealth and property can be the cause of family feuds and unhappiness. It is common in all societies and cultures to find people fighting, stressed and divided over inheritance. No amount of money secures our place in God’s kingdom.
God does not expect us to not enjoy his gifts or prepare for our future needs. God
wants us to enjoy his blessings while having a relationship with him and having him in our lives. We must align our lives with God and our neighbours to bring glory to God.
How are you investing the gifts God has given you? How can you align yourself more towards God and others?
