My grandparents made it their mission to save as much as they could so that their three children would have an inheritance. I remember my mother often telling them to enjoy what they had worked hard to earn, that “you can’t take it with you”.
Our lives and possessions are not our own. All that we are and have belongs to God. God
has entrusted us as stewards of his gifts, caretakers of his blessings. We are encouraged to give all that we can to those without, share our riches and in doing so, bring glory to God.
One of our greatest challenges as Christians is the way we handle wealth and possessions in correlation with our faith. Do we worship wealth, or do we worship with our wealth?
With God,
our future is secure. The treasures of heaven far outweigh the treasures on earth. Jesus told us so in his Sermon on the Mount, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21). It is meaningful and rewarding to focus on heavenly treasures.
Where do you find your treasure and your heart? How can you be more intentional about worshipping with your wealth?
