The second reading from Revelation offers us the Song of Angels in which the angels and elders express the attributes they saw in Jesus. These qualities are unpacked a little further in other parts of the New Testament.
As we continue this week to think about how we would talk about Jesus, what descriptions would you
use for him?
Perhaps some of the attributes in this song may assist your thoughts:
Jesus is the power of God (1 Cor 1:24). Jesus doesn’t simply make plans and leave us to get on with it. Jesus is the power behind what we can achieve for God.
Jesus was rich, yet for our
sake, he became poor (2 Cor 8:9). Jesus has all the resources available to fulfil his promises to us and has held none back for himself.
Jesus is the wisdom of God (1 Cor 1:24), knowing even God’s most secret thoughts and plans. We can trust Jesus to assist us in discerning solutions to the greatest and least of our life problems.
Jesus had
the strength to see evil and overcome Satan (Luke 11:22). There is no situation Jesus cannot cope with.
Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus as Lord (Phil 2:11). Even non-Christians have some sense of honour for Jesus.
God’s glory is experienced in Jesus’ grace and truth (Jn 1:14), which brings us to salvation.
Do any of these attributes describe Jesus for you?
What would you like to add?
Spend some time today praising Jesus as you experience him. These thoughts give us the words to describe him to others.
