The word ‘snatch’ that Jesus uses here refers to the swift and quick attack of a wolf when it grabs a sheep from the flock and runs off, or the stealth of a robber who, at night, takes what doesn’t belong to him and quickly and noiselessly disappears into the night.
This is one of the most explicit statements in Scripture that anyone
who believes in Jesus for salvation will never be lost. Believers sin and stumble, but Jesus, the perfect Shepherd, holds on to them, losing none of his flock.
What an encouraging and reassuring thought! No one can grab me from the Shepherd’s hand once I am his.
Reflect on these words for a while, and then a while longer.
There are so many voices, so many things, so many events, tribulations, wars, natural disasters and dangers that seek to distract us and take us away from our Shepherd. Yet, Jesus assures us that none of them will be able to wrestle us out of his grasp.
Who or what in your life at this time is trying to entice you away from following Jesus?
Are
there individuals or situations that exhaust you physically and spiritually?
Teachings that confuse you? What are the things that make you afraid and feel alone, so that you want to give up?
Know that Jesus has got this! Nothing can snatch you from his strong, caring hands.
