n our reading yesterday, Jesus declared that those who love him will obey his Word. Today, on the other hand, Jesus teaches that a lack of obedience shows a lack of love. It’s a sobering truth that challenges us to examine the condition of our hearts and the sincerity of our relationship with him.
Once again, this verse doesn’t imply that we earn God’s love
through obedience, but it reminds us that genuine love for Christ produces a life shaped by his Word.
Jesus emphasises that his words carry divine authority. They are the very words of God the Father. To disregard his teachings and way of life is to dismiss the One who sent him.
Obedience, then, is not legalism. It is love in action. It is the fruit of a heart transformed by grace. When we follow Christ’s commands, even when it's
difficult, we declare our love and trust in him.
This verse also reminds us that a commitment to Christ is not merely emotional or intellectual but practical. Our love for Jesus must be visible in the choices we make, the words we speak, and the way we treat others.
What does our obedience say about our love for Jesus? Are there areas where we have been resisting his teaching? How can we better align our lives with the words of
Christ today?
