In this discourse, Jesus is preparing his disciples for his ultimate departure. He gives them an extraordinary promise: they will not be left alone when he leaves. The Holy Spirit will come in his name to teach, guide, and remind them of everything he has said.
This was not just a promise for the original disciples; it is a promise
for us today. God’s Holy Spirit lives in us, helping us to understand Jesus and guiding us in truth. We are not left to figure out faith on our own. The Spirit comes alongside us as our teacher and helper.
Knowing that we don’t walk this journey through life on our own strength is comforting. The Spirit brings clarity when we’re confused, conviction when we drift, and comfort when we are weary. She reminds us of Jesus’ words when we
need them most, often in unexpected, but perfectly timed ways.
Let us draw near to God each day, trusting that the Holy Spirit will teach us, transform us, and remind us of all that Christ has spoken.
How have we experienced the Holy Spirit teaching or guiding us? Are we creating space in our lives to listen to the Spirit’s voice? How can we be more sensitive to the
Spirit’s prompting today?
