These words of Jesus make one think of someone ready for a journey—perhaps a journey from some foreign place back home again! Or how about the journey of a bride to the place where she will finally be united with her lover and begin a new life together? (This is our biblical image)
All packed and ready to go? Yes! But what is going on
inside the person? What is their frame of mind? What are they expecting? What are they experiencing in their heart?
Jesus surely wants us to be eager, joyful and excited at his coming again to judge the world and fetch us.
We will be ready if we are filled with unspoken trust in his love for us—faith. We will be joyous, having dreamt and lived for a future with our
beloved Friend—hope. We will be looking forward to sharing a common life of harmony and peace—love.
As we approach the end of this first week of Advent, how are you thinking and feeling about Jesus coming again? Is there still fear or trepidation, or have those feelings given way a little more to joy, excitement and expectation? How can I perhaps help those around me be alert to Jesus and be ready for his
coming?
