and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears;
but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist. (Isaiah 11:3-5)

Isaiah 11:1-10

Isaiah foretells Jesus as the Prince of Peace, whose kingdom will bring justice and peace to all who follow him.

Jesus is always portrayed as being in favour of the marginalised, compassionate for the poor and suffering. Despite this, the poor and the suffering will be judged with righteousness, as everyone else will be. Faith in Jesus is the measuring stick by which everyone will be judged. How we live out our faith in obedience to God will determine whether we are granted entrance into heaven.

As we journey towards celebrating the birth of Jesus at Christmas, let us reflect: When we are judged, will it show that we have lived our lives with faith, righteousness, and humility according to God’s will?

God of peace,
grant us sincere peace, faith, righteousness, and humility in the way we treat others, so that we can be faithful followers of the Prince of Peace.
