Here is Jesus’ promise to those who are faithful and reliable in managing what God has placed in their hands on earth: you will be given property of your own.
Presently, all that we have and use is given to us by God. We use it freely, while God trusts that we will share so that everyone has sufficient. In eternity, we will have
treasure, an inheritance of our own.
How, in our societies, do the rich get richer and the poor, poorer? Perhaps it is because we are disobedient and untrustworthy with what God places in our hands. Greed, self-indulgence and stinginess are words which come to mind. They are the opposite of generosity, kindness and hospitality, which characterise the big-heartedness of God when he creates the world and places all its riches and
treasures in our hands to manage.
We remain inconsiderate and uncaring, not sharing God’s bounty among ourselves. And, all the while, God is waiting to hand over our heavenly riches, which will be ours for eternity!
How can you conduct your earthly giving and receiving in such a way that you look forward to your treasures in heaven—your own wealth for eternity?
