The rich man begged Lazarus to return from the dead to bring the message of repentance and hope to his brothers. Abraham told him that they had the Scriptures with Moses and the prophets guiding them. When he said that they are more likely to listen to someone returning from the dead, Abraham told him that if they do not listen to the Scriptures, they would not listen to anyone–dead or
alive.
We occasionally have visiting priests for Mass when our parish priest is on leave or on retreat. Sometimes, during a mission week, we have a different priest delivering a message on the theme of the mission week every night. Yet, ultimately, all the messages are from Scripture, about love and hope in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This message of hope is even more critical during this Jubilee Year, because we are explicitly
called to hear the message of hope and, in turn, become messengers of hope to those God places in our lives.
How are we messengers of hope to everyone in our lives?
In what ways are our lives and message of hope based on Scripture?
