Unwavering Obedience
In the story of the Passion, we see Jesus being utterly obedient to God, his Father, even when it brings doubt, distress, hurt, suffering, pain and death.
As we think back on Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, right at the beginning of his ministry, we notice
how Satan tried to get Jesus to do two things. First, to deny who he was—God’s Son—and second, to forsake his calling—to announce God’s Kingdom and God’s reign on earth.
Jesus always proclaimed faithfully and truthfully who the Father created him to be, even at his trial. He was also utterly obedient to his calling and resolute, even when the going got really tough, and his life was threatened. When he felt the emotional pain of his
calling in the Garden of Gethsemane and when he experienced the physical pain of his scourging and crucifixion, he remained unswerving in obedience.
Reflect today on how true you are to living authentically—being who the Father created you to be.
How diligent have you been in finding and living out your calling, your vocation—what God created you to do?
